Whoever starts looking for a bass player in Switzerland, most probably won’t get around the name Toni Schiavano. Also, internationally, the "gold edge bassist" ("Der Bund") already earned his stripes. His distinctive, soulful singing bass lines have refined many a studio production, and led him on tours across Europe, as far as Brazil and South Africa.
The list of bands and musicians, by whom Toni Schiavano was invited is nearly endless (see below), proving him to be a curiosity driven artist. The list begins with the American rapper "Akil the MC" (Jurassic 5), and extends over the turkish singer "Müslüm", up to the "Berne Symphony Orchestra" or the Cuban saxophonist "Paquito D`Rivera".

Toni Schiavano grew up within the culture of Bernese funk, soul and hip-hop.
He learned his craft at the Lucerne School of Music between 2002 and 2007, pocketed the 2006 promotion prize of the Friedl Wald Foundation and was "Artist in Residence" of the federal Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, liaison office Cape Town, South Africa in 2007. A Year later, he was involved as a producer on the CD project "Rogue State of Mind", an exchange project with more than 50 musicians from Switzerland and South Africa.

The Afro-Brazilian music, which Schiavano has absorbed during two longer stays in Salvador da Bahia, too, is woven into his bass playing in a fine way. An influence, which is prominently audible on his 2008 debut Album "Tonee" and the recordings of the international trio "Pedra Preta".

Also, he acts out his soft spot for afrobeat in the ten-member band "The Faranas" since a couple of years. The debut album of the band was published in 2010 and sparked euphoric press reactions.
